When it comes to glass mirrors for commercial projects, our belief is that 6mm silver mirror glass with safety backing film is used. Normal mirror glass for residential applications is normally 4mm thickness. This means that the 6m silver mirror is stronger and more robust than the 4mm silver mirror option. This means that the mirror is less likely to damage in a challenging commercial environment. Public Liability Insurance means that most insurance companies demand that the mirror glass is 6mm silver mirror glass for commercial mirror applications. When it comes to commercial mirror specifications most architectural drawings specify that the glass is 6mm silver mirror.
At MK Local Glass & Glazing we apply safety backing film on the reverse of the mirror for safety in the event of accidents. If the mirror was to break it is important to prevent injury so we ensure that the safety film is fully compliant to BS EN 12600 for full frontal impact in a business to business environment. What this means is that the broken mirror fragments will remain stuck to the safety film in the event of the mirror breaking. In doing so, it reduces the threat of someone injuring themselves with the broken glass mirror. We are fully compliant to Health and Safety legislation and ensure that our staff wear wrist guards, gloves and goggles when working with raw cut glass.
We fully advise that you take due care in selecting your commercial mirror supplier and installer. Glass is dangerous and it is important that care is taken in the supply and installation to ensure that it is safely installed for a secure and lasting finish.
